Break an arm kid!

We experienced our first broken limb this week and oddly enough it was not one of our crazy boys that did it. It was Buttercup! She was practicing a dance for her school dance and decided to try a cartwheel. She fell and landed on her elbow and broke her arm just above the elbow. Today we went and had her cast put on and she picked a light blue color to match her dress for the dance tonight. She looked so pretty and sadly grown up. After trying on many dresses she settled on this one and it really suited her personality, she topped it off with her new giant black bow and off she went!

One month old

Ok, these are the best I got today. I am not totally happy with these but I give up. He just always looks like a grumpy old man, but I still think he is precious! He goes for his one month checkup next thursday so we will find out how much he weighs then. I know he won't be close to what Bulldog weighed at his age!

Between the hours of 6 and 8 pm

Between the hours of 6 and 8 pm, my day starts to turn sour..Messes like the one above happen frequently, at least one person is probably crying, sometimes that person is me. Usually by 6 pm, my patience is gone, though this is ironically the time of day I need the most patience. Usually it is time to make dinner, help with homework, feed the baby, get things ready for school the next day, get kids ready for bath and bed and a bazillion other things that all collide into a giant cluster of chaos, stress and screaming children. About this time I start to wonder how I'll make it to bedtime, I start to curse the fact that my husband is a fireman and works 24 hour shifts, I start to wonder what in the world I have gotten myself into and question my abilities as a mother, about this time I wish for a long, hot, quiet shower. Between the hours of 6-8 pm I am almost always sure I am going crazy but by the grace of God I always make it though and get up in the morning to start it over again.

You know your a Mom When-daze

Arizona Mamma started this new fun blog carnival! Go to her blog to check out all the details.

You know your a mom when you can do ANYTHING carrying a baby in a hotsling. This week I have gone to the bathroom, taken out the trash, cooked, done laundry and chased a 2 year old through Walmart all while wearing a baby...

You know your a mom when most morning you wake up with your shirt over your head because you fell asleep nursing again. I think this one is pretty self explanatory! Every morning now I wake up in very stages of undress because thats what happens when you co-sleep and nurse!!

Because you asked...

Here are some pictures of my sweet new baby boy! He will be one month old tomorrow (sniff, sniff ) ! So expect some "official" one month pics tomorrow! He is the sweetest, most easy going baby ever (knock on wood), he still sleeps a lot and I find it hard to get pics of him wide awake but as you see sometimes I manage. I still have no idea who he looks like, although every one else seems to either think he looks like Bulldog or Bobcat. I personally don't think he favors either. He is his own, beautiful, little person! See what you think below is a pic of Bobcat at one month and the bottom pic is Bulldog at the same age, he was HUGE!

After months of coveting...

Bobcat finally got a chance to ride his brothers 4 wheeler. He has longed to ride it for months, patiently listening to us all tell him he was not big enough. But this week he had, had enough and became relentless with his asking. So after asking Sunshine to no avail, he finally came pleading to me and I gave in and let him try. You should have seen the look of sheer joy and the squeal of delight as he rode off into the sunset, er ..the backyard. He did a great job steering it with that one tiny exception...when he ran into Bulldog. Not to worry Bulldog is tough and he got up, dusted off and stayed clear of his brother after that. For the last two days while Sunshine is at school Bobcat rides and rides, happily, with no one to bother him, until Sunshine returns from school and the fighting begins. But between the hours of 8am and 3 pm boy is Bobcat happy.

Happy Birthday Sunshine!

Today you are turning 6, I can't believe you are so big already. You are my first born son and and you will always and forever hold a special place in my heart. You are such a sweet, loving boy and a great big brother. You have the greatest smile and it melts my heart every time I see it. You are my pride and joy. I love you more than you could ever imagine and I thank God each and every day that I get to be your mother. Thank you for being my son and introducing me to the joy of boys! Happy Birthday.

Johnson Party of 7: Enough is Enough

My friend Sammi wrote a post yesterday that got me thinking. You can read her post here Johnson Party of 7: Enough is Enough It basically describes what I think is every SAHMs biggest enemy HERSELF. I myself feel much the same way Sammi does. I rarely get dressed, hardly ever ear makeup, and generally don't do a lot to take care of myself. I don't usually think too much about it but since Sammi was nice enough to bring it to my attention I can't stop thinking about it since yesterday. My question is why do moms feel like they are inadequate ? I mean we are doing the hardest and most important job in the planet, a job that requires 24 hours shifts, 365 days a year, no sick days and no pay, so what gives us the right to be so hard on ourselves? I don't know one mom who isn't overly critical about herself and/or her mothering, myself included. The demands are high our profession and our expectations of ourselves are often unattainable. So while I think it is always great to try and better ourselves I also think we shouldn't beat ourselves up too much when we fall short. After all we are just human and in the grand scheme of things a dirty house and hair that isn't fixed can be overlooked, your happiness and your children's happiness are all that really matter. I am pretty sure I didn't say what I set out to say in this post but I think you get the idea, right?? Now head on over to Johnson Party of Seven and encourage Sammi on her journey to find her happiness.

A Boys Day Out With Grumpa

Well today was an awesome day to just get out with Grumpa and the boys for a day of fishing. The boys just loved it and even though it was a little hectic with making sure everyone had a pole in hand and a fish on we still managed to have a blast. Little boys don't like to go fishing, they want to go "catching". We are thankful that our friend George has a couple really good fishing ponds.

Sunshine's first bass

Bobcat's first bass - he was a little scared

Bulldog's first time fishing

It didn't take long to get his first Crappie

Two boys out within minutes - Great Day!

Random musing of a tired mom

I feel like I am struggling to keep my head above water...Kevin is off from the fire station for another couple of weeks but he has had to go back to his spraying/mowing business and so during the day I am alone. I can keep up with the laundry (barely) and the kids but little else and I hate feeling like I can't do it all. I spend most of the day feeding Krews and trying to keep Bulldog off of him. If I want to shower when Kevin is not here I have to take Bulldog in the shower with me and put Krews in the bouncy seat in the bathroom.

I have not scrap booked in ages and i am getting behind, I hate that...I know it seems silly but I really like to keep their books up, it means a lot to me.

Bulldog has learned to say "love you" it is so sweet and when he says it he cups your face softly and pats your cheek...I adore that boy.

Bobcat had been watching a lot of tv lately which i hate but frankly I don't have a lot of time to do things with him at this point...I know he is missing out weekly fun outings but I am just not yet ready to resume those yet.

My anxiety/postpartum depression is in full gear still and the evenings are especially bad. i spend a lot of time worrying about things I can't change, like my kids growing up and Kevin and I getting old, Krews being my last baby...etc. I am usually good at seeing the positive in things but lately I am stuck on negative...

Krews finally lost his umbilical cord yesterday, I though it would never fall off. He is still doing well, eating well and sleeping well. He rarely cries, of course someone is always holding him so he doesn't need to cry!

Sunshine will turn 6 next week :( It makes me happy and sad all at once. I can't believe he is so big already. We are planning his party for next month because he wants a swimming party, well that and the fact that I have been out of commission and have not had time to plan anything sooner. We will take him to do something special before that to celebrate.

Buttercup is doing well at her new school and has landed a summer job with Kevins aunt this summer! It will give her something to do and she will learn a lot too.

I have virtually no clothes that fit and the few I do have have mysterious little holes in them from the washing machine. For some reason it only eats my shirts... I can't wait to get rid of this gross gut I have and find some clothes that fit....

hopefully soon we can find our "new normal" and get this around here back in order....

Perfection

Thats what I see when I look at this baby, he is ( in my biased eyes) a perfect little person. I love his hair, his smell, his feel, I love every inch of him. I have had him for 13 days today and I can already not imagine my life before him. He fills my heart and soul with joy and a love that is beyond words. I cannot thank God enough for giving me yet another, perfect blessing. He is a treasure and I adore him.

My boys

Happy Easter.

We had a wonderful time yesterday. We went to church, our first family outing since Krews joined us. It was a wonderful message and reminded us all how lucky we are to have Jesus in our lives. After church we went to Nana Esther's for some lunch, egg hunting and kite flying. My parents were there along with most of Kevins family. It was nice to spend time together and it was even better that the weather was beautiful. The kids all had a wonderful time, they LOVE Nanas house and the wide open space she has for them to run. At the end of the day we had three very tired and dirty little boys, a tired newborn, a tired teenager and two very tired parents. We all slept soundly last night thats for sure.

Could he be any sweeter??

Seriously, this baby is sweet! And today I finally got a picture of him where he does not look like a grumpy old man!! I know he is my fifth baby and you would think by now i would be over the fascination but I am most assuredly not. I am just as enthralled with this baby as I was my first. He really is the sweetest little guy, not demanding, not a crier, a lot of the time I have to wake him up to feed him and none of my others have granted me that luxury. I rarely put him down and usually if I do its because one of his siblings is holding him. I am really enjoying him. I do have a touch of the baby blues though and I think most of it stems from the fact that I know he is my last and I just want to savor every minute with him. It is already going so fast and it makes me sad. I know that is really lame considering he is only a week old but I really hate to think about him getting big :( I am also really enjoying having my husband home and thinking of him going back to work sends me into tears!! Not only do I love having his help with the kids, I also enjoy spending time with him. It will really be sad when he goes back to the station, I dread the first night he is away. It is also a little harder than I thought to adjust to 5 kids. You would think after 4 it would be a breeze but it has actually been hard. Now don't get me wrong the kids have been great its just finding enough hands and time for everyone is really hard and I haven't even had to do it all on my own yet! Yikes. I think this summer will be a real work out!! Sorry... I drifted off topic a little. That is all here for now.

All this for a penny?

UPDATE: WE HAVE FOUND THE PENNY!!

As i mentioned in a previous post last saturday we, well actually my husband had to take Sunshine to the ER. It seems while playing with Bulldog he somehow swallowed a penny, he says Bulldog shoved it down his throat but somehow I doubt that story. Anyway he came out of his room about 7 pm crying saying his throat hurt and he had a penny stuck in it. Great, wonderful timing too. We had a full day of visitors and were just about to give the boys a bath and put everyone to bed. Instead, since the penny was stuck KB took Sunshine to the ER and they x rayed him, sure enough the penny was stuck near his windpipe and they were afraid it could interfere with his breathing if it moved. Well after a lengthy wait in the ER the DR. informed my husband that they did not remove penny's there and that they would have to take Sunshine by ambulance to another hospital. Great, more waiting, it was now about 9:30 pm. About 10 they finally got in the ambulance and made it to the other hospital, then anther xray. This xray showed that due to the bumpy ambulance ride, the penny was now resting comfortably in Sunshines tummy!! So they sent them home, with orders to go through Sunshines poop for the next few days and watch for the penny! Great more fun. So now it has been almost a week and no penny...if it doesn't pass tonight the Dr. has called for more xrays tomorrow to see where the little devil is.... This penny is costing us a boatload......and my husband is tired of going through poop...
